Replacement country house, North Dorset
The new house in the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Dorset is a traditional full two-storey building with attic accommodation in its steeply pitched roof; and follows the vernacular and traditional form of building found in the locality. The principal elevations are symmetrical and whilst each varies slightly in appearance they share a common architectural language, character and palette of materials. The main entrance elevation on the northern side has nine bays, comprising a pair of square projecting outer wings of two bays width each, and a middle central section of five bays with a central front door within a projecting portico. The two outer of the five central bays would have smaller oeil de boeuf windows reflecting the secondary nature of the internal spaces they light. All external walls are made from locally sourced materials; Swanage hand-made red multi facing bricks with Purbeck stone dressings and detailing.
