Restoration & extension to Grade II Listed house and barn conversion, Wiltshire

The substantial Grade II Listed early 19th Century house is set in mature gardens, with associated ancillary domestic buildings, walled gardens and a swimming pool. The restoration and extension works included minor alterations and additions, plus repairs and upgrading of the historic fabric of the house. Small interventions were made to sympathetically improve the use and environmental performance. The attic was transformed to provide two new double bedrooms and large bathroom. Several of the dormer windows were reconstructed, removed or added to provide additional light and usable space. As part of a more general maintenance and sympathetic refurbishment programme, handmade clay tiles replaced the machine made tiles to the entrance elevation to match the original tiles in the roof valley. The Barn, a detached ‘L’ shaped single storey building, has been converted from a self-contained one bedroom apartment, with garage, workshop and stores, to now provide a large games room with a bar and family sitting room. The garage and workshop have been improved and more storage space provided. These changes meet the requirements of a modern family and reduced the need to provide such accommodation within the listed house.
