Masterplan for Granton Harbour, Leith, Scotland

Masterplan for Granton Harbour, Leith, Scotland

A masterplan for a redundant harbour close to Edinburgh that provides 3,400 new homes and a series of public parks and shops. These are contained within four new residential areas on a 33 hectare site, each designed with a distinct identity and individual landmark buildings. Within this framework is a clear and navigable cruciform street plan with a dense concentration of buildings at its heart. A central area focused on a new pier provides cafes, shops, restaurants, offices and public boat facilities, all designed to complement the historic working character of the harbour and to maximise sea views. A network of tight urban streets connects into the existing historic town core, re-establishing the original entrance to the harbour and regenerating the site in a sustainable manner.
