Groundbreaking country house in Hampshire

The principal body of the house contains the rooms for entertainment: sitting room, drawing room, library and dining room, (what might be called the state rooms); while the open plan kitchen and breakfast and family room are treated almost as a subsidiary wing, connected to a service range (of garages and staff flats) which encloses a courtyard, through which the family end of the house is entered. The owners are pleased with the way these two elements work together, saying “we are as comfortable here just as a family or when the house is full of 20 guests – it works as well for both.”
