Roman Villa at Wroxeter, Shropshire

Roman Villa at Wroxeter, Shropshire

The design for a Roman villa for a TV series 'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day', was produced from an initial sketch design by Dai Morgan Evans, visiting professor in archaeology at the University of Chester. The Channel 4 series followed a group of modern craftsmen as they constructed the Villa using only materials and techniques from the 4th Century AD on a site at Wroxeter in Shropshire, once Britain's fourth largest Roman town. Detailed drawings for the planning application were produced, and designs that were authentic to the Roman period as well as being buildable by today's craftsmen without all of the modern equipment and plant that are taken so much for granted. The villa is now open to the public daily from 10am.
