Planning permission has been granted by Westminster City Council for more than 6,500 sq ft of new development, split into 4 family-sized houses, designed by ADAM Architecture’s newest director Robbie Kerr. These new homes at the end of Dean’s Mews will replace the existing buildings which vary in height and style. The site is owned by The King’s Fund, a charity with Royal Charter working to improve health and healthcare in England, in the Harley Street Conservation Area of London. Though two of the existing buildings are deemed unlisted buildings of local merit, ADAM Architecture’s historic research demonstrated that all these buildings were built post 1959 and brought into question this status.
Commenting on the planning approval, ADAM Architecture director, Robbie Kerr said, “I am delighted that these new homes have received planning permission on such a challenging site. The designs maximise every square foot of the site in creative ways and integrate the latest technology for the demands of today’s modern families. “
Varying land levels of the site created a challenging set of constraints in which to design and develop these new houses which will restore the historic arrangement and help unify of this important part of Dean’s Mews. The development of more than 6,500sqft split into four new family-sized houses will be of traditional design picking up details from the existing mews. The new buildings will remain subservient in scale and detail to the surrounding context, helping to improve the buildings impact in the wider setting and in their immediate context.
Work is due to start on site later this month (June 2017).
