The 2023 winner of the ADAM Travel Scholarship is Grant Donaldson.

Grant is in his 5th year at the Royal College of Art where he is completing his MA in architecture. He is going to study the Gatehouse community in Zimbabwe. Over the last 43 years the community has taken in more than 50 people helping them through serious psychiatric, social and medical problems and establishing an orphanage, church, medical practice and school. It has cultivated its own farm, and in a country without a stable water or electricity supply, they have become mostly self-sufficient.
Grant’s project will be to document this unique community through film, photography and text, looking at what it means to live in a community and questioning how this could be applied to a different way of modern living.
