Zi Ken Toh recently completed a Student Placement Scheme, he is currently studying at the Architectural Association:
“After completing my Part I studies, I took a year out before starting Part II to work at ADAM Architecture for a year, from 2017-2018. Although it was only one short year, it was incredibly beneficial, and I believe that I learnt far more in terms of practical knowledge than I did during my 3 years in architectural education prior – knowledge that has been incredibly helpful when I returned to my studies last autumn.
While at ADAM, I was exposed to a wide variety of projects, ranging in scale from a small kitchen extension in its initial stages to a master-planning scheme for 300 homes. Despite the broad range of exposure, I was attached to these projects for a sufficient amount of time. My mentor, Hugh Petter, was very attentive and very keen that I should learn as much as I could in my time there, and this has greatly increased my knowledge not only classical architecture and its applications, but also about architecture and building in general. In addition to architectural work, the practice provided many other learning experiences through a series of life drawing classes and a sketching club. A shared, genuine interest in classical architecture and art is noticeably present, throughout the firm and makes for an excellent work environment.”
