We support and champion women in architecture and are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day today, 8th March 2023.
Our policy is that multiple voices are necessary to shape all aspects of the built environment. All ADAM Architecture employees, regardless of gender or ethnicity, are appointed and promoted on merit and women within the firm fill a wide variety of posts including our chief financial officer, sustainability lead, associate director, and managers and senior associates and operate across a range of roles including architects and architectural assistants, PR and marketing, graphic designers, historic researcher, junior and senior designers and administration.
Our female staff ratio now stands at 42% with five female promotions to management, senior management and our executive board in the last year.
Women chair or co-chair all key Special Interest Groups within the practice - Sustainability, Historic Buildings, ADAM Futures, Women in Architecture, our Management Board, and policy groups (eg agile working). It is these groups that are driving forward change within the business and are allowing women to promote their skills as strategic thinkers, educators and influencers.
We recognises that women in all workplace settings can struggle to balance home and work life, and architecture is no different. The ADAM Women in Architecture group (WIA) supports female staff both professionally and personally and any concerns can be put forward as a collective voice. Our WIA mentorship programme has increased from 25% of the office to over 50% since its inception in 2019 and is not just for architects - and now not just for women since its extension to all staff - and has proven to be a great success.
Women at ADAM Architecture hail from countries around the world, including Brazil, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Hungary, India and Italy. We learn from each other daily, from the architectural vernacular we’ve each grown up with and the cultural use of public spaces in different countries, to the food we eat in the office kitchen. Life in ADAM’s Winchester and London offices is richer and more productive as a result.
All our staff – not just our women – are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day.
