Classical Garden Pavilion
A new pavilion in Hampshire designed to mark the beginning of the new Millennium, was chosen by Lord Sainsbury from a number of submissions by invited architects. In partnership with Anthony Hunt Structural Engineers, ADAM Architecture blended classical architecture with cutting edge structural engineering. The Temple has a copper clad dome with an internal double-helix aluminium armature so that it appears to float above the limestone columns. Each column is decorated with stylised, Corinthian bronze capitals and separated by slender stainless steel finials. An inscribed slate band commemorates Lord Sainsbury’s choice of prominent British characters from the last two thousand years.
