Colonial Style House Interior
This house is designed in the Caribbean Palladian tradition, with a central block and two symmetrical wings. The building is laid out on a geometric grid of 18 feet and, with ceiling heights of 12 feet, the resulting composition feels elegant, light and airy. The careful alignment of windows and internal doors in the Palladian tradition afford dramatic views through the house to the ocean beyond and, with the help of the full width double height porch on the seaward elevation, the house stays cool without necessitating the use of air conditioning. The internal classical decoration, finished in mahogany, sits within the Bahamian tradition using the material best suited to resisting the damage caused by hurricanes and termites. The two wings contain a family room and study, so enabling all members of the family to enjoy the house at all times of the day.
