Constructed in 1796, this substantial Grade II Listed property contains beautifully proportioned rooms with many period features. Unfortunately, it had been divided into apartments but if sensitively converted, had the potential to become one of the finest homes south of the Thames. ADAM Architecture’s design was the winning submission in an RIBA competition for the reinstatement of the property as a single-family dwelling. The works include the reintroduction of the main stair to the lower ground floor, the repair of the historic rear veranda and the reinstatement of the formal rooms, all alongside a wider programme of restoration. A new pool complex, designed to be in keeping with the main house, is also located on the site of an existing garage, meeting the needs of the client and their modern family. With an informed conservation minded approach, the works remain highly sympathetic to the original character of the building, reinstating a sense of balance to the façade and securing its long-term survival.
