New Country House
Hampshire

A new country house at the heart of a 930 acre country estate in Hampshire. The original house was demolished in 1952, leaving only a small, unlisted fragment remaining. The replacement house echoes the style and character of the original building, using traditional Flemish bond brickwork with stone detailing. A loggia demarcates the main entrance and an external sunken garden to the west leads out from an indoor swimming pool at lower ground floor level. These works have now restored a substantial country residence to the site, revitalising this working estate. The project also involved the repair of a collection of grade II listed estate buildings. This included the restoration of the eighteenth century stable yard to its original form, recreating a building that was demolished in the 1950s. Other works included an outdoor pool, tennis court and adjoining pavilions, a new boathouse on the existing lake and the restoration of an estate cottage, game larder, potting shed, listed garden wall and tack room with horse shower. The original parkland setting and picturesque landscape have also been reinstated.
