A new farmhouse villa replaced a small modern house at the heart of the Hertfordshire Green Belt. The design is a modern interpretation of a simple Regency farmhouse, with a deeply overhanging slate roof, and substantial eaves brackets. The building is finished in natural self-coloured render with Cotswold stone dressings around the door and window openings. Two of the elevations have distinctive classical entrance porches that open out into the landscape. Internally, the dramatic double height main hall contains an elliptical curved staircase, lit by a glazed cupola within an elegant shallow dome. The Fireplaces to the main reception rooms were specially designed for the house, bringing a complete sense of unity to the finished design.
