Planning has been submitted for a substantial new family home in a remarkable setting in Hambleton, Rutland.
The design for the house, by ADAM Architecture director Robbie Kerr, replaces an existing dwelling of little architectural merit with a new, traditionally designed, English country house and associated gardens, designed with a growing family in mind, and the client’s desire to make a lasting contribution to the built environment. The surrounding listed properties, including neighbouring Hambleton Hall Hotel, are characterised by their use of traditional architectural language. This is reflected here in the use of local materials, meticulously detailed in every aspect, from the central, carved stone doorcase and the stone quoins to the Flemish bond brickwork. The arrangement of interior spaces and the massing of the various elements reflect a classical architectural language. However, given the scale of the surrounding village, the proximity to Hambleton Hall and the preference of the client, some of the more monumental features of classical house style have been softened.
The proposed gardens have been treated with the same care and attention as the house itself. Our proposals for the redevelopment of the wider site aim to increase biodiversity and support the status of Rutland Water as both an SSSI and Ramsar Site.
