We are driven by the belief that classical and traditional architecture still has the power to create vibrant, sustainable communities, and beautiful buildings fit for the 21st century.

ADAM Architecture is a renowned leader in award-winning classical and traditional architecture, both in the UK and overseas. ADAM Urbanism was launched in 2010, with a team specialising in contextual urban design and masterplanning. Our focus is on delivering excellent service to our clients, and providing an inspiring place to work. Our 100-strong practice is based in Winchester with a secondary studio in London’s Somerset House. The six design directors – Nigel Anderson, Hugh Petter, George Saumarez Smith, Robbie Kerr, Darren Price, and Robert Cox – lead their own projects, each with a distinct and individual style. However, they are united in their commitment to classical and traditional design and an appreciation and understanding of modern technology to promote the most sustainable architecture.

Our projects range in scale from private houses and the restoration of historic buildings to commercial and public buildings and masterplans, including village extensions and major housing developments. Beyond the work for clients, our directors are prominent in professional affairs and frequently consulted by government agencies and ministries on policy and design. They are active members or trustees of many national and international architectural and urban design organisations, including the RIBA, the Prince’s Foundation, the Academy of Urbanism, the Georgian Group, the British School at Rome, and the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU).

History

The practice has been known as ADAM Architecture since 2010, when it changed its name from Robert Adam Architects (and before that, Winchester Design), to recognise the individual design profiles of the directors. Over the last 30 years, the practice has grown in size and reputation, both nationally and internationally. In 2020 Robert Adam stepped down as a director to pursue independent interests.

The London studio was opened in 1993. The strong team of architects and technologists based in Somerset House work closely with the team in Winchester. Directors Robbie Kerr and Darren Price are both based in London.
