A new family home in Highgate replaces a 1920’s house that had been unsympathetically extended and altered. The design follows a recent, brutalist proposal for the site, which was unsympathetic to the scale and character of the Conservation Area in which it is located. The new building is a scholarly classical design with a compact plan that respects the existing building line of the street and the local scale and massing. Traditional and sustainable materials are used, with walls in solid stone and brick and the landscape design places the house in an appropriate sylvan setting.
