While the house’s architecture is disciplined and classical, the owners prefer strong simple interior colours and are keen collectors of contemporary art with the result that the house is full of light and interest. The entrance hall is in effect an open loggia (glazed in deference to the English climate) which in turn opens into the high-ceilinged main central room of the house, which runs through to the south front, the grand Sala, which is both hall and dining room. A huge detailed chimney piece, with its tapered chimney and geometrical overmantel, gives the dining room a solid, and carefully articulated visual focus. Opposite the chimney piece is a tall, finely detailed arched opening to the stone staircase. The family kitchen occupies the south-eastern corner of the house and the range is framed by a plain stone chimney piece immediately evocative of the Italian villa farm tradition.
