ADAM Architecture was commissioned to undertake historical research from the beginning of the project to identify its historical significance and ensure the proposals provided an authentic approach to refurbishment. The Grade II Listed property dating from the mid-17th Century was identified to have been a coach house and later a storage building for the adjacent Fullers Brewery before its conversion to a residential use. The interior was reconfigured in a manner more consistent with the underlying architecture of the building. All interior and exterior joinery was designed and constructed in a bespoke and traditional manner, including sash windows, shutters and wall panelling. Our carefully considered work adopted good conservation practice at the same time ensuring improved energy efficiency through increased insulation, slim double glazing and breathable construction. New fireplaces were supplemented with underfloor heating. All external alterations were made in materials to match the original building and modern interventions removed to ensure the building fabric returned to its original construction.
