ADAM Architecture – designing internationally

ADAM Architecture is best known for working across private, public and commercial sectors in the UK. However, for over 20 years the practice has also been expanding into international markets, with work in countries and territories as various as Italy, India, Hong Kong, the Caribbean, Morocco, the USA and Nigeria. Our portfolio of international work demonstrates that classical architecture can be adapted to great effect, to reflect local, cultural identity.

Projects range from a modern classical villa in the heart of New Delhi and a beach house in the Bahamas, to new educational facilities at the British School at Rome and Millennium Gate, a monumental arch incorporating a public gallery and meeting and reception rooms, in Atlanta.

Over the last decade there has been a marked increase in the number of international projects. Most recently, the restoration of Government House in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, has seen the reopening of one of the country’s most significant historic landmarks after a major conservation programme.

We always respect the specific context and natural and urban environment of a site, as well as the cultural identity of the region we’re working in, working collaboratively with local craftspeople and contractors to deliver complex projects and act variously as architect, architectural historian or coordinating designer, depending on the requirements of the project. We often include local cultural references and always focus on a holistic approach to sustainability.

In recognition of the number of new projects in the Caribbean, we have recently opened a permanent ADAM Architecture studio in Antigua, still supported by and connected to the studios in London and Winchester.
