Cracking Design Codes

We first began writing urban design codes in 1996 with a residential project for The Duchy of Cornwall at Shepton Mallet, Somerset, followed by codes for similar developments at Midsomer Norton, Somerset and at Trowse, Norfolk. We have since accrued extensive experience in coding across the country and are unique in the way in which we write and administer a wide range of design codes, from the straightforward and contained to the explicit and detailed. Our flexibility and range of coding allow us to adapt to the requirements of sites and clients’ priorities rather than adopting a dogmatic approach to a single methodology.

We explain the different types of codes and their benefits, how they are implemented and enforced, and include a number of case studies from across the UK.
