Hugh Petter awarded 2025 Arthur Ross Award for Architecture by the ICAA

Congratulations to Hugh on receiving the ICAA Arthur Ross Award.

We are delighted to announce that ADAM Architecture partner Hugh Petter has been honoured with the Arthur Ross Award by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) in New York City.

The 44th Annual Arthur Ross Awards Ceremony welcomed 550 guests and raised nearly US$1 million in support of the ICAA’s educational programmes. These awards celebrate the lifetime achievement of individual architects, painters, sculptors, artisans, landscape designers, educators, publishers and patrons who have dedicated their professional lives to preserving and advancing the classical tradition.

Of Hugh’s work the jury said: “Hugh Petter’s work is community building. There exists a real housing crisis in the UK and he's one of the few classical voices looking to solve that. His work draws inspiration from many different voices like Lutyens and interprets them with a masterful use of classicism. We appreciate that he fosters a sense of place rather than just one beautiful object. His work is humanistic.”

Throughout his career, Hugh has designed numerous town and country houses and notable commercial and public buildings and worked on the restoration of significant historic buildings. However, he is perhaps best known for his work for the Duchy of Cornwall. Since 2003 he has been both the masterplanner and co-ordinating architect for Nansledan, a 4,000 home mixed-use urban extension in Newquay, Cornwall, regarded by the current British Government as the benchmark for new developments.

Hugh says: “I am deeply touched and very proud to be recognised in this important way, and I offer my wholehearted thanks to the jury of the Arthur Ross Awards. I am immensely grateful too to the talented and dedicated team around me at ADAM Architecture, and for their constant support and inspiration. We live in challenging times, and I believe passionately that the principles of traditional architecture and urbanism has much to teach us all about meeting the climate crisis in an intelligent way whilst building strong, integrated, healthy and happy communities in beautiful and enduring places.”

This recognition is a testament to the outstanding work of Hugh and his team. We couldn’t be prouder – congratulations Hugh!
