Georgian Townhouse Restoration
Winchester

An important, early Georgian property that overlooks the Cathedral Close in Winchester had undergone crude modern alterations and was in need of substantial renovation and modernisation. ADAM Architecture provided proposals for the reinstatement of the house as a single property, restoring original features and repairing the historic fabric. Detailed historic research was carried out by Professor Dan Cruickshank in order that the proposed work was well informed and sympathetic to its sensitive setting. A complex programme of works was developed for the main house, stables, garages and courtyard, including the removal of modern partitions and the restoration of the original layout and floor levels. These designs provide modern facilities whilst retaining the character of the historic building and reintroducing elegance and craftsmanship to the interior.
