The Oxford Oratory, St Aloysius Church
Repairs and restoration to the Oxford Oratory
This project includes the design of a new altar and main sanctuary, the restoration of the Gabriel Pippet murals and the reinstatement of the sanctuary’s original decorative scheme. It also includes extensive repairs to both the sacristy and boys’ sacristy and the creation of two sensitively designed new-build elements.
The new altar replaces an existing timber altar and reredos and is in the restrained baroque style. It is built of limestone and a variety of coloured marbles from Ireland, Italy and Portugal, crafted by expert stonemasons S. McConnell & Son of Kilkeel, Northern Ireland.
