British School at Rome

The British School has its origins in a design by Sir Edwin Lutyens as the British Pavilion at the Rome Exhibition in 1911. It was subsequently built in more permanent materials.

When commissioned to extend and renovate the building, we were able to demonstrate that Lutyens had intended a colonnaded veranda along the west front, so proposed a scheme with columns and glazing which completed the vision and formed the extension of the library wing. Other additions include an art gallery, as well as an auditorium in the basement.
