01 — Each group of streets reveals a particular character but all refer to the local vernacular
One of three developments by The Ashfield Estate.
The Ashfield Estate wanted to create a development in which it could take pride, without surrendering control to volume house builders, land dealers or planning consultants. The estate took advice from engineers, ecologists, planners, architects, traffic consultants and landscape architects as well as from those who would build the development. ADAM Architecture was one of these key advisors also working on Mountbatten Park (previously known as Hoe Lane) which, with Whitenap, makes up the three Ashfield Estate sites.
Luzborough includes 56 homes on a 2.4 hectare site, built by local housebuilders who formed the Ashfield Partnership with the Ashfield Estate. The focus of the approach was to deliver places to live and work which suit the way people aspire to live today and also ensure a bright future for subsequent generations. Emphasis was put on communities which encourage walking and cycling, benefiting the environment as well as encouraging greater social interaction.

Each building is designed to contribute to the whole rather than to stand out. While each phase or group of streets may reveal a particular character they still conform to the overall masterplan which directly refers to the traditional Hampshire vernacular, specifically the Test Valley. Key to the success of the scheme has been the support from the new residents and occupiers who embrace the approach to the masterplan and take pride in their environment. It is hoped to be a testing ground for The Ashfield Estate to show how traditional building techniques can successfully be adapted in the future.
