New Classical House, Hampshire
A new manor house near Winchester
A classical manor house, faithful in format and detail to its location at the heart of a historic village on the border of the South Downs National Park.
The new owners of this site sought to replace a 1970s house at odds with the surrounding landscape. The design of the house follows the tradition of a local manor, using materials and finishes that evoke the mid-18th century Hampshire houses found in nearby villages such as Cheriton and Twyford.
Built on a square plan, the house is adjoined by a single-storey wing. Restrained architectural detailing is concentrated on the doorcases in the centre of the east and south façades.
